Water Temperature Sensor (Service Code 14) (DTC P0115, P0117)
• When only the service code is available, follow all inspec-
tion procedures in this section.
• When the DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) is available,
follow inspection procedures that has have the DTC in
the headline in this section.
Water Temperature Sensor Removal/Installation
NOTICE
Never drop the water temperature sensor especially
on a hard surface. Such a shock to the sensor can
damage it.
• Drain the coolant (see Coolant Change in the Periodic
Maintenance chapter).
• Disconnect:
Water Temperature Sensor Connector [A]
• Water Temperature Sensor [B] with O-ring
Remove:
• Replace the O-ring with a new one.
• Tighten:
Torque - Water Temperature Sensor: 12 N·m (1.2 kgf·m, 106
in·lb)
• Connect:
Water Temperature Sensor Connector
• ing the
Fill engine with coolant and bleed the air from the cool-
system (see Coolant Change in the Periodic Mainte-
nance chapter).
Water Temperature Sensor Inspection (Service
Code 14/DTC P0115)
(Checking wire for open circuit)
• Disconnect:
ECU Connectors (see ECU Removal)
Water Temperature Sensor Connector (see Water Tem-
perature Sensor Removal/Installation)
• Check the wiring for continuity between the ECU harness
connector and sensor connector.
Wiring Continuity Inspection
ECU Harness Connector [A] ←→
Water Temperature Sensor Connector [B]
W/BL lead (ECU terminal 30, W/G lead) [C]
If there is no continuity, repair or replace the main harness
or subharness.
If there is continuity, first check the water temperature
sensor wirings (see Water Temperature Sensor Circuit).
If there is no continuity, repair or replace the main harness
or subharness.
If there is continuity, second check the terminals of the
sensor and ECU for corrosion or bent.
If the terminals are corroded or bent, replace the water
temperature sensor and/or ECU.
