Periodic Maintenance Procedures
• Loosen

switching valve hose [A].

Fuel Tank (see Fuel Tank Installation(3-59))
• Start the engine and run it at idle speed.

Plug the air switching valve hose end [A] with your finger
pulsing in the hose.
If there is no vacuum pulsation, check the hose line for
leak. If there is no leak, check the air switching valve (see
Air Switching Valve Unit Test(16-68)) or air suction valves
(see Air Suction Valve Inspection(5-14)).

• Keep the handlebars straight ahead.

• Measure the gap between the lever and the lever holder.
If the gap is too wide, the clutch may not release fully. If
the gap is too narrow, the clutch may not engage fully. In
either case, adjust it.
Clutch Lever Free Play
Standard: 2 3 mm (0.08 0.12 in.)
WARNING
The engine and exhaust system get extremely hot
during normal operation and can cause serious
burns. Never touch the engine or exhaust pipe
during clutch adjustment.
• Loosen the locknut [A].

Turn the [B] so that 5 6 mm (0.20 0.24 in.) [C]
is visible.
• Tighten the locknut.
